Bondurant is a city in Polk County, Iowa. It is part of the Des Moines?West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bondurant incorporated as a city on December 23, 1897. It was named for Alexander C. Bondurant, who was the area's first settler in 1857. Polk County was formed on January 13, 1846. It was named after President James K. Polk. The first courthouse, a two-story structure, was built in 1846. Construction of a second courthouse was begun in 1858.

Due to construction delays and the onset of the Civil War, the structure was not completed until 1866. The present courthouse was erected in 1900 in the Neo-Renaissance style. It was dedicated on October 31, 1906. In 1962, an extensive renovation was undertaken Polk County was named after James K. Polk. Polk County was established in 1846. Bondurant's population was 1,846 at the 2000 census; a special census taken in 2006 counted 2,951 residents.
