Used Cars in Newton: The All Important Interior Inspection

It is almost automatic for used car consumers to give the vehicle and exterior check over, they look for rust, dents, scratches, and worn tires. After all, everyone want there car to look shiny and nice. But think about it, where will you, the driver, be spending your time? On the inside of the car. So, take just as much time to inspect the cabin of the vehicle, and that does not just mean peeking inside and making sure the carpets are clean. As a first step, sit in the driver's seat. Is it adjustable to fit your body type and comfort level? The safety belts should all be functioning, and without any unraveling, as this is a safety issue. It should be noted if the carpeting is stained or worn. If there are mats you should determine if they need to be replaced. Next up are all of the gauges and meters. A used car should at least be functioning in this area, and if not, it could lead to costly repairs.

If you came prepared you may have brought a CD to test out the audio system. This is more important to some than others, but should be noted either way if it does not work on a used car. When you start the engine on the used car listen for any knocks or strange ticks and press the brake pedal, it should be fairly firm.It is also important to think about whether the used cars cabin fits your lifestyle. If cargo room is a priority focus on this, think about some things you may carry on a regular basis and if they will fit. Have a bunch of kids and car seats? If you are serious about the car you may want to install your children's car seats and make sure they fit, you may even want to bring them along and strap them in, can you easily reach them, is entry and exit relatively easy?

Finding Newton Used Cars

Newton Iowa is located in Jasper County and is Newton is divided into four quadrants: 1st Avenue divides the north and south segments of Newton, and 1st Street divides the east and west segments. Roads labeled as avenues run east and west while roads labeled as streets run north and south. Newton's street numbering system also extends into rural Jasper County.  As of the 2000 census, the city population was 15,579. It is the location of Iowa Speedway. Newton was founded in 1850 and incorporated as a city in 1857. In the late 19th century, Newton's growth was fueled by the development of coal mines in the region. The first significant mine in the area was the Couch mine of the Jasper County Coal and Railway Company, opened in the 1870s. It was, for a while, the largest mine in the county, producing 70 tons per day. In the early 20th century, large scale mining in the Newton area had declined, but there were still several mines in the area that were worked intermittently.

Newton later became a manufacturing community, much of its growth derived from the washing machine industry.  Newton may be most well known for the events of 1938, when martial law was declared during a strike at the Maytag Washing Machine Company. Iowa governor Nelson Kraschel ordered the Iowa National Guard to protect the company with tanks and machine guns ready against the workers. In 2001, a decision to cut labor costs resulted in a reduction of the labor force at the Newton plant in favor of newer Maytag facilities in Mexico. Layoffs at the Newton plant continued through 2005. In 2006 Whirlpool announced that it would close the Newton plant and corporate offices, which employed about 1,000 workers and the corporate offices employed about 800 at the time.
