The highest-ranking member of Chrysler's family of front-wheel-drive minivans, the Chrysler Town & Country has long appealed to families and empty-nesters seeking a practical vehicle with a dash of luxury inside and out. Early T&Cs satisfied this desire with wood-grain decals, leather seats and a standard V6 engine, while the current model offers amenities like a navigation system, tri-zone climate control and a power-operated liftgate. Since its introduction for 1990, the Chrysler Town & Country has shared all of its mechanicals with its less upscale Dodge siblings, the Caravan and Grand Caravan, and that carries through to the current generation.
Over the years, some of the Town & Country's amenities have been truly ground-breaking. The T&C and its twin, the Dodge Grand Caravan, have been the first and only vans to offer Stow 'n Go, a seating system that provides fold-flat capability for both the second- and third-row seats, as well as in-floor storage compartments when the seats are occupied. They were also the first to offer driver-side sliding doors. But in other aspects, the T&C's features list has often been a step behind the competition. It was among the last minivans to offer essential features like stability control and a rearview camera. Reliability concerns are also perpetual. Overall, the T&C may be Chrysler's finest, but there are typically better minivans on the market.
Chrysler has set the minivan standard in ride
comfort and driving ease. The 2007 Town & Country's light steering
is appropriate and automatic-transmission shifts are prompt and
easy. The Town & Country Limited delivers enough performance to
impress on the highways.
Front Impact airbags are standard as are antilock brakes are
standard. Optional side curtain airbags protect occupants in all
three rows of seats. LATCH child-safety seat anchors are installed,
and rear parking assist is optional.
The cabin of the Chrysler Town & Country is a comfortable place for all seven passengers. Seat belt anchors are height-adjustable in the front and middle rows for improved comfort and safety. Upholstery is cloth and the second-row seat is a bench. The amazing Stow 'n Go system only comes in trims higher than the base trim. When the second-row seats are upright, two storage bins with integrated lids provide additional storage space. Standard cargo net bags adjust to fit each storage bin. Split-bench tailgate seating is made possible by flipping the third-row seat rearward. Convenience features are all over the Town & Country cabin. Cargo volume behind the rear seat is 15.3 cubic feet for standard-length models and 26.4 cubic feet for long-wheelbase minivans. Touring and Limited minivans get a roof rack and 16-inch cast-aluminum wheels, while other versions ride on 15-inch steel wheels. The Town & Country Limited packs a stronger engines and more safety features than its competitors. Despite the growing choice of minivans available, the Town & Country continues to be a popular choice. The Town & Country stands as a desirable family vehicle.
