Iowa Ford Escape Used

The Ford Escape has become one of the best-selling small SUVs in the U.S. market. Despite residing in a market packed with competitions, Ford has been producing SUVs for years, and apparently, they know what they are doing. The Escape was first rolled out in 2001, and got its first significant refresh since its debut in 2008.  For that year, the used Ford Escape received some styling changes, inside and out, plus a quieter cabin for 2008. The used Escape is a popular choice for those in the used car market. It has combined the styling and four-wheel-drive capability of a traditional SUV with the size, practicality and driving characteristics of a midsize car.

As a bonus, the used Escape model is truly affordable. If shopping in the used SUV market, consumers may be interested in a Escape 2008 and later, as much has improved since the Escape originally came out. The interior in particular has received significant improvements, with much better materials and a more attractive design. When Ford came out with the Escape in 2001, it already had the best selling full size SUV, the Explorer, and the oversized Excursion.  As the market trends started to focus more on fuel efficient vehicles, rather than gas hogging SUV. Ford needed an answer for their market. As a result, the Escape was Ford s first car-based SUV; it is derived from the Mazda 626 platform, which the Mazda Tribute rides on.

The preowned Escape competes with other car-based SUVs such as the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester and the new Hyundai Santa Fe. The Ford Escape s basic exterior and interior design remained unchanged through '07. It was initially available in XLS, XLT and XLT Sport trims that were joined by the leather-lined Limited a few years later. Ford Escapes were equipped with a rather anemic base engine   a 2.0-liter four that made 130 hp -- until '05 when it was replaced by a 2.3-liter four that made 153 hp. This first-generation Escape also offered an optional V6 that made 200 hp.

Although the four-cylinder engines could have a five-speed manual, most had the optional four-speed automatic that was standard on the V6.In the 2008 redesign, the Escape body adopted Ford's newer styling themes seen in the Edge and Expedition. The cabin's new look was more contemporary than before, with more ergonomic and attractive controls. The '08 model still had the 153-hp four-cylinder and the 200-hp V6, both with the four-speed automatic transmission. The 171-hp four-cylinder and the 240-hp V6 and newer transmissions came online for 2009. The Escape, overall is a very popular choice for a used SUV, and has sold many models. After 2008, however, the Escape was even more loved as a refined, feature fill SUV.
