Used Lincoln Cars in Des Moines

Named after President Lincoln, this luxury division of Ford has been building cars since the 1920s. One of the company's most popular models, the Lincoln Town Car, made its debut in 1922, and was followed by the Lincoln Zephyr and the first Lincoln Continental in the 1930s. The latter was substantially updated in the 1950s and renamed the Continental Mark II, and after being redesigned once again in the early 1960s, served as President Kennedy's limousine during a fateful day in Dallas, Texas. On a brighter note, the Lincoln Continental, with its convertible top and suicide doors, also served as the vehicle of choice for the Delta brothers of Animal House.

That classic film starring John Belushi hit screens in the 1970s, as did the Lincoln Continental Mark IV and Mark V; a somewhat smaller Mark VI arrived in the early 1980s, with the yet smaller Lincoln Mark VII cruising onto dealer lots a few years later. The svelte Lincoln Mark VIII, which represented the last of the production Mark cars (not including the ill-fated Lincoln Mark LT pickup truck developed years later), was offered in the 1990s. It was also during the 1990s when the brand released its first SUV, the large and luxurious Lincoln Navigator, a rugged vehicle built on the backbone of the Ford Expedition.

Though every limo service's favorite steeds, the Lincoln Town Car and Lincoln Navigator, continue to shuttle travelers throughout America, the company has worked hard to flesh out the rest of the lineup with modern, competitive cars and crossovers. The best example is the Lincoln MKS, a rather large and spacious sedan available in front- and all-wheel-drive variants blanketed by a sleek exterior. The Lincoln MKT offers a similar experience in large crossover guise.

Visitors of a dealer's showroom will also find the Lincoln MKZ sedan (formerly called the Lincoln Zephyr) that represents a more upscale interpretation of the Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan, and the Lincoln MKX, which does the same for the Ford Edge. The Lincoln Aviator and Lincoln LS are no longer produced. Prices range from about $35,000 for the Lincoln MKZ to more than $50,000 for the Lincoln Navigator.

The Lincoln Motor Company was started by Henry Leland in 1917, and named after his favorite U.S. president. Lincoln quickly became a stiff competitor to Cadillac and Packard, the leading high end automotive brands at that time. Read an overview of Lincoln used cars for salefor further research. Lincoln targeted the higher end auto market, but quickly ran into financial problems, and was bought by Ford Motor Company in 1922. At the time Ford was having a huge success with the cheap mass produced Model T's. Lincoln was its opportunity to produce a line of high end vehicles.
